The 42nd Annual South Dakota Science Olympiad State Tournament will be held on
Saturday, March 21, 2026

MESSAGE FROM THE STATE DIRECTOR

Dear Science Olympiad Coach/Coaches, Mentors, 

Happy 42nd Science Olympiad Tournament Season! SD Science Olympiad (or "SD Sci-Oly" for short) is one of the founding state programs to compete in the first national Science Olympiad way back in 1984!

My name is James Tracy, State Director of the South Dakota Science Olympiad. Let me first offer you a warm welcome to the SD Sci-Oly! If you represent a returning team, welcome back! If this is your first time with the SD Science Olympiad, welcome aboard! We have introduced a new Startup Team program; please see our "Getting Started" page for details.

The 2026 South Dakota Science Olympiad State Tournament is scheduled to be held on the campus of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion on Saturday, March 21, 2026. 

​We would like to invite your school to register to compete at the South Dakota Science Olympiad State Tournament You can use the link above or navigate to our Getting Started page. There are 23 Events which span the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics disciplines, with various levels of competitive challenge for students!
